Hudson suspect had June drug arrest

The convicted felon suspected in the Chicago slayings of Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew was arrested on a drug charge in June, but authorities declined to return him to prison on a parole violation, internal parole records show.

Corrections Department spokesman Derek Schnapp said officials who reviewed the cocaine-possession case against William Balfour determined "the evidence that was presented during that time wouldn't have necessarily warranted a violation."

A judge dismissed the charge for lack of probable cause in July, but under the strict rules of the state's parole program, Balfour could have gone back to prison just for the arrest.

No one has been charged in the shooting deaths of Hudson's mother, 57-year-old Darnell Donerson, her brother, 29-year-old Jason Hudson, and 7-year-old nephew Julian King.
The older victims were found in the family's home Friday afternoon. Julian's body was found in the back of an SUV on Chicago's West Side on Monday; authorities declared his death a homicide Tuesday.

Around the time the first bodies were found, Balfour's parole agent had reached him by phone after Balfour missed a meeting with him that day. Balfour told the agent he was "baby-sitting on the West Side of Chicago," according to the documents, obtained by The Associated Press.

The agent said he thought he heard a child in the background during the call. Balfour was taken into custody later Friday.

Balfour, Julian's stepfather and the estranged husband of Hudson's sister, served seven years for attempted murder and vehicular hijacking.

The Illinois Department of Corrections issued a warrant for Balfour on Saturday for violating terms of his parole by possessing a weapon and failing to attend anger management counseling and a substance abuse program, according to his parole history report.

The records indicate a parole supervisor declined to issue a warrant to revoke Balfour's parole after Chicago police arrested him June 19 for possession of cocaine.

Jumped the Shark

It happens to the best of television shows. After a few strong seasons, a series takes a wrong turn that fans find unforgivable. This is known as the moment the show "jumped the shark." Sometimes it's just one goofy episode, like on "Happy Days" when Fonzie competed in a water skiing competition during which he had to pull off the ridiculous stunt of jumping over a shark (hence the phrase). Other times, it can be an entire plot shift that completely ruins the show. Remember when the working-class Conner family won the lottery and "Roseanne" became unwatchable?

Well this Fall many new shows started and there are a couple that were just plain disappointing.

1. "America's Next Top Model" is the show that it might have been done with a while ago. Its the same thing even season. The only thing that is keeping this show alive is the crazy stunts that Tiara does. But this season it may just be over done.

2. Nobody knows better than “Project Runway” that one day you’re in and the next day you’re out. Honestly, there aren't many shows that we've loved more; with its casts of outrageously talented designers tasked to create runway-worthy masterpieces, we’ve been diehard fans season after season. But when they kicked off Season 5 with a repeat challenge from Season 1, the lack of creativity was immediately apparent (in both the contestants as well as the show’s producers). And once the show rolled out the Saturn cars (a sponsor of the show) and asked the contestants to design something using car parts, the shark was officially jumped.

3. "Prison Break" has been the all time favorite for many but at the end of Season 2 they jumped the shark. Somehow Michael ended up in prison in Panama, Lincoln was the one on the outside, and this time Michael had to be broken out. Enough already! We’ve endured way too much; from the “deceased” Sara coming back to life to T-Bags ridiculous situations, this show needs to be locked up and the key thrown away.

Brenda Song: Miley Cyrus is a Good Diva.

As much as I love Brenda Song, I really despise Miley Cyrus. I think she's too much and I've seen her live on t.v. with the MTV music awards. She really wanted to win the new artist award and she made sure that Katy Perry and Taylor Swift knew of that. I'm glad she didn't win for it, because her head would have gotten bigger than it already is. Even with her many bad rumors about her myspace pictures, isn't that enough for everyone to know she is a bad role model? I know Brenda Song is just saying that, she's the one with the real heart od gold!

The recent series of possibly racy Miley Cyrus photos has led to a stern defense of the Hannah Montana actress by Joe Jonas, a tongue lashing by Bill O'Reilly and a spirited debate among readers of The Hollywood Gossip.

Chime in with your opinion on Cyrus and these pics NOW.

That's what Brenda Song, star of the Disney Channel's The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, has done. She had the following to say about this breaking scandal:

"Miley is probably the most charismatic and strong 15-year-old I know. She brushes everything off with a smile. She is truly a diva รข€" in a very good way!

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Heading to the Altar?

After the huge drama about the break up with Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston the drama as pretty much faded. Brad moved on to the beautiful Angelina Jolie and connected as one in moments. Now as parents to Maddox, 7, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2 and 3-month-old twins, Knox and Vivienne, the media have been waiting on a marriage.

"When we first met I already had a child," Jolie tells the new issue of Italian Vanity Fair. "We didn't live together and we adopted Zahara. Usually people fall in love and and everything revolves around people getting married. Children are an afterthought."

"We've done everything the wrong way around, but sooner or later the children will ask, you know, they watch films and ask questions," Jolie, 33, said. "They want to know why Shrek and Fiona got married and we haven't."

Pitt has said he won't marry Jolie until gay marriage is made legal. Personally, this is quite odd. Are they just together because they are tired of the couple and marriage thing or because they truly love each other? Well Angelina and Brad are now hitting that they might be heading to the altar. But do you think they will just do it for they children? Or is it because they truly want to get married?

Michael Jackson Steps Out for Skin Care

The King of Pop has finally stepped out of the cave! I don't think that anyone has seen him in awhile but here he is! The kind of disease he has is Vitiligo. Throughout the end of the 1980s, Michael Jackson's skin grew paler. I remember my brother telling me that the reason why he was white is because he has always wanted to be white. Now I know that it isn't true! haha I think it's a sad thing what Jackson has to go through. But that didn't stop Jackson from being the King of Pop. But I felt like that he grew kind of insane after that with the whole Home Alone kid and the baby over the balcony ordeal.
Jackson's skin was a medium-brown color for the entire duration of his youth, but starting in the early 1980s, his skin gradually grew paler. This change gained widespread media coverage, including rumors that Jackson was bleaching his skin.[4] In the mid-1980s, Jackson was diagnosed with vitiligo and lupus; the latter is in remission in Jackson's case, both illnesses make him sensitive to sunlight. The treatments he uses for his condition further lighten his skin tone, and, with the application of pancake makeup to even out blotches, he can appear very pale.[47] The structure of his face has changed as well; several surgeons have speculated that Jackson had undergone multiple nasal surgeries, a forehead lift, thinned lips and a cheekbone surgery.[48] Changes to his face were, in part, due to periods of significant weight loss.[13] Jackson became slimmer in the early 1980s because of a change in diet and a desire for "a dancer's body".[49] Witnesses reported that Jackson was often dizzy and speculated that he was suffering from anorexia nervosa; periods of weight loss would became a recurring problem for the singer later in life.[50] Some medical professionals have publicly stated their belief that the singer has body dysmorphic disorder, a psychological condition whereby the sufferer has no concept of how they are perceived by others.[51]

My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way’s "Umbrella Academy" Film

With news of My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way’s “Umbrella Academy” headed for development over at Universal, Splash Page looked back to a recent interview we did with the fanboy-turned-rock star-turned-comic writer on what he hopes happens with a potential “Umbrella Academy” film. The question that comes to mind, Way ready?

“It’s a pretty recent development,” explained Way from an interview from the floor of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. “Mike Richardson, who runs Dark Horse and owns it, just signed a three picture deal with Universal because he has a great relationship with them from ‘Hellboy,’ and the first film that he wanted to get made – that they wanted to option – was ‘Umbrella Academy.’”

For those of you in need of a refresher course, Way describes “Umbrella Academy” as, “A post-modern superhero story – not a ’superhero comic.’ It’s the story of seven extraordinary individuals adopted and raised by a closet space alien [named Sir Reginald Hargreeves] – poorly – to save the world from nobody knows what.”

Yet as excited as Way is for an “Umbrella Academy” film, the unabashed comic geek who was once an intern at DC Comics and graduated from New York’s School of Visual Arts with a degree in cartooning, is quick to say that he hopes that a few more volumes of “Umbrella Academy” can hit shelves before a film hits theaters.

“You know how it goes, you wanna see it happen so you get really excited, but you gotta kinda be patient,” said Way. “By the time the film comes out, I think we’ll be on series four [of 'Umbrella Academy'] which I think is important. I think if a movie came out right now, we only have one series under our belt, and it’s not enough mythology out there.”

As far as the aforementioned “mythology” Way mentions, it could mean scenes that he wanted to work into “Umbrella Academy” stories but couldn’t due to the limited amount of space on a monthly comic.

PARIS = Mc Cain as BRITNEY = OBAMA

Yupp! Our blondes have said their opinion. I found this article to be quite interesting because you don't see a lot of media (blonde celebs especially) to be concerned with politics and especially the election. I read the comments from people who read this article saying that Britney is messed up in the head and obviously doesn't know what she is thinking. But isn't Paris the same too? Come on, we're all a little messed up in the head, no one is perfect! "What we decided to do is find the top three international celebrities in the world, and I would say from our indications, Britney and Paris came in second and third," said campaign manager Rick Davis. "Will people think of this as negative advertising? Look, it is the most entertaining thing I have seen on TV in a while." He went on: "It is not our campaign that is trying to make him into an international celebrity. It's his campaign... I don't know Paris Hilton and Britney Spears but they are international celebrities, so, you know, apples to apples."

In the end, the ad may tell voters as much about McCain as it does the Illinois Democrat. It was not too long ago that McCain's campaign released a memo -- authored by Rick Davis -- saying it was "critical" to "run a respectful campaign focused on the issues," no matter which the Democratic nominee emerged. Since then, the presumptive Republican nominee has launched attacks on Obama's patriotism, has blamed his opponent for high gas prices, and has accused him of willfully snubbing the troops.

Update: Obama himself has responded: "You know, I don't pay attention to John McCain's ads, although I do notice he doesn't seem to have anything to say very positive about himself. He seems to only be talking about me... You need to ask John McCain what he's for and not just what he's against."

Interview: Secret Life Of Bees Featuring Queen Latifah

As August Boatwright in The Secret Life of Bees, Latifah translates her immense energy and warmth into a maternal strength, playing the oldest of three sisters who take in a white orphan and her black caretaker at the height of the Civil Rights movement. She talked with a room full of admiring journalists about playing a black female character who isn't a stereotype, cooperating with her bee co-stars, and toward the end, things got a little political. Queen Latifah wants you to know you have no idea who she'll vote for in that voting booth!

How was working with the bees?
I was like, look guys, I'm not gonna smash one of y'all. Just don't sting me. And they were very fine to me, since they get moody sometimes, especially when it's cold outside. And we shot on some kind of chilly days.

How did you get yourself into the more emotional moments of the story?
Music is very important to me. I connect probably quicker through music than I do through any other medium. I could literally play one verse of a Clark Sisters record, or eights bars, and something strikes me in such a way that it brings me right there. Usually I'm looking to some type of gospel, which tends to get right to my spirit. This movie, I can honestly say, I was so present. I was so in August's body. It was like, I know this person. I felt like these are my sisters. This is where we live, this is what we do, Zach is my godson, all these women are my friends. I just felt her. I felt connected to where we were, what was going on at that moment. Like I said, more than any film that I've done in a long time.

Did you have relatives or ancestors who personally experienced the Civil Rights movement? No, not really. I'm not related to any black person in the country... of course I got relatives! [The entire room bursts out laughing] My dad works with me on a lot of movies. Any question I had, I can just ask him, for someone who was actually around at that time. I also kind of grew up in the South. My grandmother and my aunts and uncles, a lot of them were from Maryland and Virginia. I experienced some racism in New York. Just go try to get a cab, you'll feel it. They'll pass me and pick you up. That immediately connects you to how painful it is. That's the kind of things that affected me as a kid.

Mariah Carey still Battles Racism?

As a Filipino, I've heard a lot of things about Mariah Carey against Filipinos or generally speaking ASIANS. I'm not that offended though, because I personally don't know her. And I wouldn't stop listening to her music because of it. But does she fight her own racist battles? There are tons of articles stating that people forget that she's half Irish and half African American. Yet I think that she's being a hypocrite saying that people are sometimes ignorant. How could she possibly say that when she offends another race. I think that's very contradicting of her to say that especially having it on articles. I think that someone should put her on check too. Maybe this is karma for what she said and what she called Asians or Filipino (still not verified)"Brown Monkeys"

ContactMusic.com reports that Mariah Carey often has to scold people for making racially insensitive remarks. The singer, whose mother Patricia is Irish-American, and late father Alfred Roy was African-American said, “I’m in a room a lot of times with only white people, and they forget and say things that are offensive - and I have to put them in check. And I’m sitting there and I’m thinking I’m either going to have to leave or I’m going to have to talk about it. After travelling the world, I think racism, or ignorance, is everywhere. It’s in the US, Italy, France. Even in certain Latin American countries, where it’s a very mixed society.”

GOSSIP GOSSIP GOSSIP

Could Jennifer and John Mayer light the flame? We all have to admit she's pretty lucky from moving to Brad Pitt to John Mayer! Even after a good heartbreak after Pitt, she and John Mayer have been getting more rumors than ever.. right? I don't they do enough on Jennifer after the break up. Now it's all about Jolie and Brad. haha it's sad but true. If you really thinkg about it.. when do you really know that a celeb couple is really together? Hard to say, but I think that they could be getting back together.. but who knows.. anything is a possiblity!
"They looked like they were having a fantastic time," says one observer of the Saturday night dinner. A source close to John adds, "They were hanging out this weekend."

Aniston, 39, in New York on business, dined with Mayer, 30, on oysters, ravioli with mushrooms and black truffles and fish. The actress returned to Los Angeles on Monday.

Even though his summer romance with Aniston is now a thing of the past, Mayer, according to a friend, is "someone who is known for staying connected to people he cares about and for staying friends with people he's been linked to."

Not everyone remains convinced a re-match might be a good thing. Says one pal: "If they are back together, Jen is not bragging about it to her friends."

Ford Keeps his Indy Title

Remember all those rumors that Shia LaBeouf might end up taking over from Harrison Ford as the new Indiana Jones? Ford put a nail in the notion of that coffin in an interview, and there is no way is he giving up his hat to a kid.

Ford says that not only are there no plans to transition the franchise to Shia in the future and, “that's never been [the idea]. As George has famously said, we'd have to call it 'Mutt Jones: The Search for Elvis.' [Laughs.] I think it just doesn't work that way.”

Indiana Jones is a classic adventure. It has been out for the longest time, and with Shia LaBeouf in it now, it does add a little spice. The old and new adventures are anticipated by the public and loved by the viewers. However, it does not mean it should be changed to ruling out the man and star of movie.

Unfortunately, that probably does not mean the franchise won’t still go on, just with more of the aching, creaking, increasingly CGI’s Harrison Ford in his traditional role. Given the choice between Mutt Jones and the Search for Elvis or Indiana Jones and the Colostomy Bag of Doom, we might all have been better off if they’d gone with Mutt Jones. At least Mutt does not wear comfortable, sensible, static-free grandpa pants.

Angelina Beats Down the Rumors

Lately, if you picked up a mag, ANY MAGAZINE (particularly the tabloids), you would see blasted across the front page on how Angelina Jolie is going through depression and how she is so stressed and how she is just so overwhelmed. Well Angelina has gone on the record to smash those rumors to the ground. In an exclusive, new interview with Hello! magazine, Angelina Jolie firmly denies rumors that she is overwhelmed with the kiddies or that her relationship with Brad is in the pits.

Angelina says that she and her family don't pay much attention to rumors, because their lives are full of rainbows and puppies and bake sales and unicorns and lots and lots of money. "We have fun, we have each other, and we have a lot of love in our life," says Jolly Jolie. "And anybody who has love in their life has something that is much more important than anything else" - even those nasty rumors. And what about the 3-month-old twins? Angelina says, "They're good babies, and pretty much on schedule. They pretty much eat every three hours, so I've arranged breaks in my day around that." Of course Her Royal Perfection would have perfect, punctual children.
She talks about how she loves to watch the twins interact, and adds, "You reach a point where you almost think that to have one baby alone would be kind of lonely."

Like all other parents, the family struggles to balance work, play, and the kids, saying that when they go out - which is no small affair - they find it easier to hang with other parents because other parents are "more respectful of our privacy than many people because they understand what it's like just to want to be with your kids. Parents are much kinder to us than some other members of the public." But of course, people still want to take pictures, and when the kids ask why, Brad and Ange tell them it's because of their parents' particular profession. Which Angie says she is ready to get back to, after a year long hiatus. Ever the perfect "best friend," Brad supports Angelina all the way, reminding her that her work is an integral part of her. No wonder she calls him one of her "favorite people."

Hilton-Rihanna '08

The best satire in this year's elections probably would have to be Paris Hilton. I don't know if you saw her commercial on funnordie.com, but it featured her in her swimsuit by the pool while she propsed her energy plan. Afterwards, she went off air saying that she had to be on her way to pick up her VP pick, Rihanna. I thought that that was funny, but it also saddened me a little bit. It saddened me because Paris Hilton kinda made some sense in that commerical, a feat which honestly...is almost a statistical impossibility. You know that democracy is in shambles when Paris Hilton is making just about much sense (or even more) as two high ranking government officials. Nothing against Paris Hilton or any other celebrity. But I think she is a satire for our current political candidates. The two major contenders sound a lot like celebrities, whose proposals may have some sense but are full of generalities. If anything else, I expect both McCain and Obama to deal with the specifics and come up with more sophisticated arguments. If this year's elections is all gonna be about posturing again (as the candidates are making it to be), then maybe the WHite House really would be no worse than if Paris and Rihanna were in it.

Angelina's good words for Obama

Angelina Jolie has said recently in the vanity Fair that she has not yet decided who to vote for this year, but that Democratic nominee Barack Obama seems to align with her views. The actress said that she finds Obama's stances regarding intervention in cases of genocide and closing Guantanamo Bay as favorable. Jolie also added that "Barack Obama would be nice for [her] family.(AP)" and that the Illinois Senator happens to agree with her on some issues. This non-endorsement praise by Angelina Jolie probably won't send the McCain campaign campaign packing, but it does prove that Obama has really taken the country by storm. Is that enough reason to elect him? Well, I leave that up to you. My political beliefs need not be exposed here. All I hope is tha people won't vote for anyone based on personality and media-savvy. Both McCain and Obama have something going for them in terms of character and charisma, but the whole election boils down to whether any of them has the right solutions for the country. And just like Ms. Jolie, I've yet to give my support to either Obama or McCain. And I will remain undecided until either of them set aside political rhetoric and actually propose solid solutions.

Britney Spears' New Perfume

Britney Spears has done it again! Her new perfume will be hitting the stores on January 2009. The scent as described in a press release as being "all about expressing the many, mysterious sides of a woman." Which sounds beautiful, sophisticating and pretty exciting.

Will this be a success? Well her original perfume, Curious, earned $100 million in sales in the five weeks after its 2004 release. But now with her reputation sliding, it might not do as well. However, in television ad, Spears, will appear through trees in a forest and ask, "What do you have to hide?" So this may be a great booster for Britney.

Britney is entering the industry again with a strong and with a positive outlook. The singer has been hard at work on her next album, Circus, which will be available on December 2.

Movies to Watch!

Staying home this weekend? Well, we have the perfect movies you have to watch. So such grab you popcorn and cuddle up next to your television and enjoy!

CITY OF EMBER
Even though this movie was based on a best-selling young-adult novel, it's surprisingly dark. Literally. The film is about an underground city, aptly called Ember, and its failing power source, which threatens to throw the town into complete darkness.

BODY OF LIES
Ridley Scott directed this film about a talented undercover CIA agent who grows disaffected with American foreign policy. The film features plenty of plot twists, way cool explosions, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe getting in each other's faces.

THE EXPRESS
This true life sports drama tackles the story of Syracuse University star football player Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the coveted Heisman trophy.

QUARANTINE
If you liked the diseased crazies of "28 Days Later" and the nausea-inducing camera work of "Cloverfield," you'll probably dig "Quarantine." Based on Spanish horror film "REC", the movie is about a luckless camera crew looking to shoot a human-interest piece on firefighters who winds up sealed in a site infected with rabid maniacs.

Disney's New Princesses

As you all know, Camp Rock, Hanna Montana, Wizards of Wavery Place has gone sky high with ratings that preview on the Disney Channel. On Hanna Montana, isn't there a episode with a feud between Hanna and Mikayla (played by Selena Gomez)? Does anyone really think that they really do not like each other in real life? I know it's pretty cliche of me to talk about the disney channel, but you have to admit that they are kind of taking over! haha I think that out of all the talent, Demi Lovato has the most talent. Hanna Montana is in my opinion, cocky. She isn't good whatsoever. I just hope that she knows that, but i think she's using her dad's fame to an advantage! That's what I think. Selena Gomez is pretty much best friends with Demi Lavato. I think Hanna Montana is pretty much on everyone's bad side.
I found this on TMz, thinking it was quite funny. Just because they show smiles but what happens after the camera is done shooting? haha just something i always found curious.

Sonic Unleashed

The trill and excitement a child or even adult had when playing the original Sonic game was priceless. Sonic the Hedgehog made his debut on the Sega Genesis in 1991. Sonic became one of the world's best-known video game characters, with his series having sold 45 million copies. The great success came from the fun and humorous battles that reached to many people's hearts.

The Sonic legacy continued and in the next year Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released. With a sidekick introduced, it out sold the first release. Then in 1998 Sonic became the first to take place in a fully 3D world, aping the achievements of Mario 64 two years earlier, and it was the first to feature a full voice cast.

Sonic did fall in 2003 when the critics disliked the effects and plot. Society was shifting to a different stage considering the new hit games were Grand Theft Auto and Halo. So as a result, Sonic introducing Shadow the Hedgehog in 2005. It failed miserably. The new Hedgehog swore, used guns, well the complete opposite to Sonic. The public wasn't a fan of the change and completely ignored it.

Realizing their big mistake, Sega turned to the more friendlier side and team up with Mario for a friendly competition at the the Beijing Olympics.

Out this year, Sonic Chronicles sees noted Knights of the Old Republic, which is a real new departure for the series. Sonic the Hedgehog has gone through many changes, but the adventures and trill is certainly worthwhile.

Oasis??

Now a days, if you ask someone here in the states who Oasis are they would just look at you with a black face; however, in Britain, it's a totally different story. Oasis started in the 90s releasing great hits and slamming the charts with amazing Anglo anthems. U.S. top 10 hit "Wonderwall" and "Champagne Supernova" practically made them the Biggest Band of the Planet. They were known everywhere, but then out of the blue they disappeared.

What happened to them? Sadly, Britpop never quite took off here in the States. Spin magazine declared Teenage Fanclub's Bandwagonesque the top album of 1991, but a little American-made album called Nevermind stole all its thunder. Other British bands caught up with legal problems and so nowadays the only real British-band success story in America, is Coldplay.

But Oasis probably don't care, as they're still one of Biggest Bands On The Planet. They've sold more than 50 million records worldwide; have racked up eight number-one singles in Britain; and have won 15 NME Awards, five Brit Awards, and nine Q Awards. Their 2005 album Don't Believe The Truth was their most successful and critically heralded in years, and their seventh studio album Dig Out Your Soul is garnering similarly high praise.

Even though Oasis had its rough times, their music and souls will live forever.

Weekend Box Office

It was a surprising weekend for the box office. Previous weeks number one went to Eagle Eye starring Shia LaBeouf was expected to take the top spot again this weekend. But a little doggy must have swept him off his feet cause the family movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua took in $29 million making it number 1 this weekend. Eagle Eye took in $17.7 million this weekend making it number 2. Rounding out the top three is the Michael Cera hipster, teen, rom-com flick Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist with $11.6 million in ticket sales. Kirsten Dunst's movie did HORRIBLY this weekend. Her new film, How To Alienate Friends opened in wide release this weekend and played to pretty much empty theaters. Drunkst's movie made a paltry $1.4 million!!! That's horrible for the movie business. Maybe if they would have done a better job advertising it more people would have known that it was coming and perhaps gone to see it.

Veep debates draw attention

Let me talk a little bit about the recent Vice Presidential debates. OK I know, I know you're asking: what is a commentary on politics doing in an entertainment blog? Well why not? At least since the TV became a staple in America's culture, politics and the show business has been very closely intertwined. Celebrities and politicians draw rating alike, with the more media savvy ones getting the love from the viewers.

Just recently, we had Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska and Senator Joe Biden of Delaware duke it out onstage. It was one of the most watched VP debates in history and as a political junkie I can see why. With a significant portion of the population believing our nation to be in trouble, I expect folks to be concerned about the plans of their next leaders. Another reason for all the excitement though probably has to do with the backgrounds of Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden. Palin, a greenhorn in national politics, has been drawing curiosity among many people. Biden, meanwhile, who has been dubbed the "gaffe machine" is known for his fiery tongue and no-BS straight talk.

Both Biden and Palin stood their ground, although Biden's experience made him a clear winner. To Palin's credit, however, I agree with CNN's assessment that she has "lived naother day". She carried herself well and was very poised, but stopped short of actually making a significant change in public opinion, which ahs been favoring the Obama-Biden ticket.

Nonetheless, it was a good debate (though with less fireworks than I expected), and I hope that Americans would be better educated to vote this November.

Ice Cube's sensitizing new music vid

Ice Cube recently released a video of his song "Why Me?", which featured the family of a 17 year old teen who was murdered near his home. The boy,Jamiel Shaw Jr., was said to be a football player in high school who was on his way to college with a scholarship. Shaw's promising future seems to be the salt to the injury. An illegal immigrant gang member named Pedro Espinoza is said to be the suspect in Shaw's death, although he has pleaded not guilty. Reports said that Espinoza had killed Shaw after "asking him about his gang affiliation." AP reported that Shaw did not belong to any gangs.

Ice Cube decided to put Shaw's real family instead of "a bunch of actors" to get his point across. He said that he finds gun violence murders very "tragic" and "ugly". But while Shaw's family is pushing for the passage of "Jamiel's Law", which would crack down on illegal immigrants in gangs, the rapper said that his music video was not endorising such measure.

"You've got a person being killed by a person he don't know for a reason he don't know ... Who cares if it was an immigrant or if it was a taxpaying citizen?" Ice Cube said in an AP article.
