Hilton-Rihanna '08

The best satire in this year's elections probably would have to be Paris Hilton. I don't know if you saw her commercial on funnordie.com, but it featured her in her swimsuit by the pool while she propsed her energy plan. Afterwards, she went off air saying that she had to be on her way to pick up her VP pick, Rihanna. I thought that that was funny, but it also saddened me a little bit. It saddened me because Paris Hilton kinda made some sense in that commerical, a feat which honestly...is almost a statistical impossibility. You know that democracy is in shambles when Paris Hilton is making just about much sense (or even more) as two high ranking government officials. Nothing against Paris Hilton or any other celebrity. But I think she is a satire for our current political candidates. The two major contenders sound a lot like celebrities, whose proposals may have some sense but are full of generalities. If anything else, I expect both McCain and Obama to deal with the specifics and come up with more sophisticated arguments. If this year's elections is all gonna be about posturing again (as the candidates are making it to be), then maybe the WHite House really would be no worse than if Paris and Rihanna were in it.
